Rebecca is a prime example of the power of Education and Empowerment in transforming lives.
Rebecca was separated from her family at the age of eight when she was placed in the ESPWA orphanage by her parents who could not meet her basic needs (education, food, health and decent housing). When Overture reunited the children at the ESPWA orphanage with their families, Rebecca was 18.
With your support, Rebecca and her family received:
Safe shelter that gave Rebecca the opportunity to learn independence
Counseling to restore the family bonds broken by their separation
Scholarships for Rebecca to continue her education and graduate from our Young Adult Empowerment Program focused on improving social skills, setting goals and developing professionally
Nutrition support and training to improve the family's capacity to meet their needs
Today, Rebecca is 21 years of age. With the guidance of an Overture social worker, Rebecca is realizing her dream of becoming a nurse. She’s currently studying at the Notre Dame University in Les Cayes and is on the path to being the first in her family to earn a degree, hold a professional career, provide for herself and care for her family and the other children in her community for which she is so passionate. As you can see, Education and Empowerment were critical elements of Rebecca’s success and her journey was only made possible through the generous support of people like you.
